FUSION 4 – SUPER TALENTED ALLROUNDER from CORE Kiteboarding

Swiss Army Nife

The Fusion 4 builds on the Fusion 3 (read our review of that board here) and then squeezes even more Cartan carbon into an improved outline.

Core’s proprietary 30° biaxial carbon fiber weave optimizes torsion and longitudinal flex by allowing more flex along the length the board and less flex from toe-to-heal across the middle. It’s also light, because the weave also uses less resin which saves considerable weight.

The Fusion 4 has the same pronounced channels as the Fusion 3. The center channel run down the length of the board and there are two ¾ length outer channels that further improve edging. The channels deliver bags of grip, so if you’re all about that finless feel then you could conceivably ride this board without fins if you want to.

The thickness of the board has been reduced (which even further reduces the weight) but increased carbon layering through the board’s midsection keeps it solid and retains the flex pattern while a softer flex in the tips allows for a nuanced ride.

The board still comes with a paulownia wood core, which is strong, light and lively, and Fusion 4’s new top coat is more resistant to UV rays (and it looks pretty slick too).

There’s also the Fusion 4 LW, which is a larger version of the Fusion 4 that also delivers fun freeride performance, as well as light wind-friendly dimensions for early planing and easy cruising in gentler conditions.

You can ride the Fusion 4 in boots or with straps, but if you’re going for the latter then Core’s new Union Pro 3 pads and straps might be worth a look. Each half of the split straps is independently micro adjustable, you can tweak the angle of your feet 11 different ways to lock in your preferred stance and the strap has 2cm of pad adjustability fore and aft to accommodate all foot sizes.
